Clam Hunting

Patutnya hari ni aku bayar accommodation fee aku kat bank, and I was on my way there too.
Tapi aku lupa yang hari ni senior senior medic nak bawak aku and Syed pi cari clam somewhere on the north-eastern side, somewhere in Deborah Bay... and we going there by a MPV - medics here have their own car, since its quite cheap for a secondhand, plus, they gonna be staying here for atleast 6 years. Aku dah half way there dah, I dont like to procrastinate...tapi nak jaga hati senior senior, yang so far being very helpful and good to us. So I postponed my plan for the next day.

Kutip kepah.

On our way there, we were dazzled by the spectacular view of Otago Harbour. I can't stop taking pictures...too bad I didn't bring my sis punya SLR, otherwise you guys could see better detail.

Some pics on the way there...

It took us about 20minutes to get there, but it was worth every second.

This is somewhere between Aramoana and Careys Bay. Theres a Malaysian student doing Marine Biology in Otago Uni and he found a large population of clam and the size of one clam is as big as human palm, hiding deep beneath the sand in this location-tak de la dalam sangat.

Don't have any picture of the clam though...

We had to walked out there in the cold water to find those clams, and we need to dig for it...with our bare hands. It won't take long until my hands started get numb, good thing they brought along their rubber boots, otherwise my toes would get frost bites and I won't know about it.

Baru nak pi cari clam

When we first arrived, there wasn't any wind. Sini angin dia memang sejuk sangat. We went to checked out the spot first, to see if the water level was any deep. At that time air tengah surut, so ok la.

We solat zohor kat tepi pantai ramai ramai, after that...clam hunting. We allowed to collect only mature clams, which buried deep in the sand. Nak bezakan, just tengok size je. Yang besar tu kira dah matang la.

The seniors collected 2 buckets filled with clams, most of them from a same spot...banyak gila. Kalau lah cari clam ni cam cari emas..wah, memang hancur tempat ni. Actually there is a law for this clam, a specific amount of clams can be collected per person. I don't know exactly how many, but one of the senior did mentioned that to me, and cara dia cakap cam kita dah langgar undang undang tu.

After selesai collect clam,...makan!!!. One of the senior prepared a lunch for us all from home. Hah, time kita nak makan tu la angin sejuk mai. Dah la tangan dah beku sebab kutip clam -not that I complaining or anything-, haha, so makan dalam keadaan menggigil...tapi makanan sedap, tak apa, gagah kan diri time tu.

A panoramic view of the bay- sorry, blogspot tak bagi stretch lagi.

Habis makan, we headed to Aramoana...

Few kilometers away from our clam picking location is Aramoana

One of the senior medical student

This beach is very beautiful, too bad there wasn't any penguin around at that time...always wanted to see a one

Alright, the journey was fun. Hopefully it will still be fun when my first semester begins, insyallah. Back at their place, clam clam tu kita rebus, and some of the clams kita grill...sedap gak. Joanne, I know how much you love eating clams, so get your ass here to get some, and bring your bike here too. There are plenty of awesome places here for trail riding.

Bye

the pictures were amazing.

and thanks to you for not telling us tha u own a blogspot. not until you have thousands of entry. *grrr*

i knew this link from famy so sila marah die sekarang. (sebab pecah rasie)

if the clams were as big as human's palm, it's enough to actually eat one clam per day. that's why they have the rule in how many you can caught per day because they dont want you to mabuk makan clam.. haha~
